Third prize in the competition for the best thesis engineering done in the academic year 2010/2011, organized by the Polish Association of Electric Engineers (SEP) and the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering of the Technical University of Lodz.

The main aim of the thesis was to design and develop positioning system for wireless local area networks. This document gives an overview of fundamental localization techniques used for positioning of radio receivers. Based on results of conducted experiments, influence of indoor propagation environment and choice of user terminal on received radio signal characteristics was discussed. Database Correlation Method was described in detail as a method that can increase positioning accuracy in indoor environments. As a result of the thesis, indoor positioning system LocationFinder::WiFi was implemented. The system demonstrates application of Database Correlation Method for location of terminals attached to IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n networks. Description of the algorithms and techniques applied is provided. Verification results of the prototype system are described and discussed, as well as possibilities of further improving positioning accuracy of the implemented solution.
