Professor Paweł Strumiłło

The current director of the Institute of Electronics.

He was born in 1959 in Lodz. He received the MSc degree in electronics and in 1983 was employed at the Institute of Electronics as an assistant. His scientific specialty is medical electronics. To this field of study he devoted the doctoral dissertation defended in 1993 at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland and the habilitation thesis, which he defended at the Lodz University of Technology in 2002. In 2013, he received the title of full professor in technical sciences. In years 1998-2005 he served as a deputy director of the Institute and in years 2005-2015 was the head of the Medical Electronics Division. He has published more than 200 scientific papers covering topics in biomedical signal processing, image analysis, computational intelligence and human-computer interaction systems. The last few years of his research he has focused on running projects on electronic aids for the blind (the recent project is the Horizon 2020 grant). He is the author and co-author of three books, he promoted 7 doctors of sciences. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Professor Andrzej Materka

The Director of the Institute from 1995 to 2015.

Born in  a picaresque  town of Łęczyca, he studied at the Warsaw University of Technology and  was awarded his Master of Science degree in 1972.
From 1972 to 1974 he worked for Polish Radio and Television Station in Lodz but he moved to the Technical University of Lodz  in 1974 and he has been employed there ever since. He was awarded a PhD in Electronics at TUL and then the post doctoral qualifications of DSc (habilitation) in electronics at Wroclaw University of Technology. In 1996 he became a Professor of Technical Sciences dedicating his research to electronic integrated circuits and signal and image processing.
Due to Japanese Government scholarship he was a research fellow at Shizuoka University from 1980-to 1982.
He also worked as a senior lecturer at Monash University in Melbourne from1992 to1994.
His scientific interests are focused on:

  • Modeling of semiconductor devices
  • Medical electronics
  • Signal and image processing
  • Neural networks

Professor Andrzej Materka is a senior member of Association of Polish Electrical Engineers. He published more than 140 scientific journal and conference papers and he is the author of 4 monographs. From 2002 to 2005 he was also a dean of the Faculty of Electrical Electronic  Computer and Control Engineering.

Professor Jerzy Luciński

The Director of the Institute from 1986 to1995.

Born in Lodz in 1930, he is a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at TUL and was awarded MSc in 1954. He has been employed by the university since 1952.  In 1957 he was a cofounder and organizer of the Chair of Industrial Electronics. He was awarded his PhD degree in Technical sciences 1964 and  in 1986 became a Professor. His research is concentrated on electronics, especially power semiconductor devices.
Professor Jerzy Luciński is the author of very popular monographs dedicated to applications of thyristors and other power devices.

Professor Zdzislaw Korzec

The founder and the first Director of the Institute.

Born in Lodz in 1929 and educated there. In 1950 he became a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at TUL and he received a  MSc degree in 1956. As a student he started to work for the Institute of Thermal Techniques. Since 1956 he has been employed by TUL. His research performed at the Institute was focused on semiconductor devices. He was awarded PhD in 1964 and post doctoral qualifications of DSc (habilitation) in 1970, both in semiconductor electronics. Among his numerous publications there are 5 monographs on semiconductor devices and electronic circuits design.
Professor Zdzislaw Korzec is an active member of scientific societies, namely Association of Polish Electrical Engineers, Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering and IEEE.
